Deer Love

I just finished this story for a graphic narrative competition I heard about through the awesome comic shop Gosh! in London. The winner will be announced at the Comica Festival happening next month for which I have booked a table to sell my stuff. I really can't wait.

Also: I believe I have enough short stories now to create an anthology zine so do look for that story to be on sale at the festival too!

'Deer Love' is a love story that ends before it begins, the characters fall deeply in love despite the fact they are wearing masks the entire night. Though the evening is romantic, fun and a little cliche, the couple never blossoms into a relationship because of the looming fear of potential loss and painful realization that magic fades, connections break and full moons retreat.

Thanks to Cory Roberts and Kathleen Sanders for the editing and kind words.

The Eyes in the Sky!!!

This is a short story I just finished illustrating for Ian Daffern, writer of the awesome on-going comic series, Freelance Blues! (check it out here!)

It's a bit outside my usual genre range but I had alot of fun getting to draw different characters and action scenes involving a car (it was tricky!), not to mention some tech-fetishy cannibals...
On an artistic level I think it was very challenging and I learned to trust in my own inking abilities abit more. I hope it shows...

Anyway, Ian tells me this story is part of an anthology of similarly creepy stories he's written for August's Fan Expo 2011 and the anthology will be for sale there! It's coming up so if you're going you should definitely pick up a copy!!!

So without further adieu, here is the story!

It was such an amazing experience despite the fair being mostly literary based. I still met some amazing people, and likewise, they had a chance to sample some of my comics. I have to thank those who came out to support me and I hope you will stay tuned to see more Otto-I'm working on Issue 4 NOW!

Here are some pictures of the event of yours truly!

The Song of Otto

Tomorrow (June 19th, 2011), I've got a table and will be selling my comics!
The event is called the Small Press of Toronto Book Fair and is going to be held at the University of Toronto's Hart House!
It's free to attend!

I will be selling The Atlantic, I Don't Blame You, Model Employee and all three The Song of Otto issues seen here!!!
I know I haven't really been posting this book-so many of you wouldn't know what's it about. Like Our Children Would Not Kill Us, I am collaborating with the amazing Kathryn Kuitenbrouwer again to visual here original story, here's a little art and a synopsis!

The Song of Otto is a contemporary re-visioning of the ancient crusade epic The Song of Roland set in Roncesvalles Village in Toronto, the original battle taking place in Roncesvalles, France.

The Song of Otto will be appearing in the exclusive hand made book: Filter Literary Journal (check them out!) and the online publisher, Joyland.ca in 2011.
you can read the whole story thus far here on picasa!!!

hope to see you there!

I had the fantastic opportunity to present at the Kazoo Comic and Zine Festival this year as part of Guelph's week long Kazoo Arts Festival! It was AWESOME for many reasons:

1) I sold out of everything!!!
2) I got nominated for best debut comic for Our Children Would Not Kill Us!
3) I was also interviewed by Guelph University-I'm sure I sounded really dorky, and it was only
a 5 minute interview, but still, I'm super happy about it! I will keep you updated if it becomes
available for podcast, and just how dorky I really was.
4) Most of all, I met stellar people, the organizers, volunteers, artists, and fans.

It was hands down, the best day of the year for me and has inspired me to keep the dream alive...

Here is the poster from the event and some photos of yours truly at the Sparrow Press table!
